Daughters of the American Colonists

California State Society

National Theme

To commemorate and honor the men, women, and children of the first English colony in North America in 1587, and the founding of the original thirteen colonies, which became the United States of America.

“Walking, I am listening to a deeper way. Suddenly all my ancestors are behind me. Be still they say. Watch and listen.

You are the result of the love of thousands.” – Linda Logan

“Not to know of what occurred before you were born is to remain always a child. For what is the worth of human life, unless it is woven into the life of our ancestors by the records of history?” – Marcus Tullius Cicero

National Scripture

““If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.”
Psalm 139.9-10

The California State Society was organized April 3, 1925 by Mrs. Earl J. Fellows at Los Angeles, CA. It was shortly followed by chapters in Santa Barbara and San Francisco. Today, there are ten chapters located though out the state. Click on Chapters to locate the chapter closest to you. You will find a map and chapter locations.

To enable our members to be active in an area of their interest, we are actively involved in several committees devoted to patriotism, history, and education. We support students in local high schools and colleges by presenting JROTC and ROTC awards. We support history by placing markers at historical sites in California. A listing of those already marked can be found under Chapters. We support education through scholarships.

The California Society continues to support the National projects designated by the current National President. In addition, the state has a theme and projects to support the state theme.
